Call for Nominees and Applicants: SVU Board of Directors
Please note: SVU also has open Officer positions on its Executive Committee. To be eligible to be an SVU Officer, applicants shall have achieved and maintained a professional credential in vascular technology and have served a term on the Board of Directors. The Society for Vascular Ultrasound (SVU) is seeking nominees and applicants for a total of 6 Director positions - 2 Technologist Directors, 2 At-Large Directors, 1 Physician Director, and 1 Vendor Director - to serve on the SVU Board beginning in January 2022. SVU Directors play a vital role in shaping the future of the profession and the Society.
Opportunity 1: Technologist Directors (2) - Three-year term
The open Technologist Director positions are three-year positions for 2022-24.
In July 2021, SVU Members will elect a Technologist Director for a three-year term. From the pool of remaining candidates, the SVU Board of Directors will appoint the remaining Technologist Director for a three-year term.
Eligibility for Technologist Directors
To be eligible to serve as a Technologist Director, a candidate must:
- Be an SVU Member in good standing for at least one year prior to election.
- Have achieved and maintained a professional credential in vascular technology (RVS or RVT).
- Have as their primary employment activity the performance of noninvasive vascular testing, supervision of noninvasive vascular personnel, management of a noninvasive vascular testing or diagnostic facility, or education or training in the field of vascular technology.
The SVU Governance Committee will review all qualified applications and may consider other candidates as well, and may opt to conduct interviews. Two finalists will be presented to the Board of Directors for election at its August meeting. Candidates will be advised of their status during the process.
Opportunity 2: At Large Directors (2) - Each for a one-year term
The two At-Large Directors are one-year positions for 2022. At-Large Directors bring special skills and experience to SVU relevant to the successful implementation of the organization’s strategic plan.
Eligibility for At-Large Directors
Candidates do not necessarily need experience in vascular ultrasound to serve as At-Large Directors, nor are they required to be SVU Members. However, they are encouraged to become SVU members if elected.
The SVU Board is seeking two accomplished candidates with demonstrated skills and experience in one of three key areas:
- Grant Management,
- Learning Management Systems, i. e. online learning in a healthcare context, OR
- Success leading a scientific or medical journal through the Medline/PubMed Index application process.
The role of At-Large Directors is to supplement Board, Committee and staff efforts to move the organization forward in accordance with its strategic plan. Directors must have a willingness to actively apply their skills in the role of At-Large Director.
The Governance Committee will review all qualified applications and may consider other candidates as well, and may opt to conduct interviews. Two finalists will be presented to the Board of Directors for election at its August meeting. Candidates will be advised of their status during the process.
Opportunity 3: Physician Director - Three-year term
The Physician Director is a three-year position for 2022-24. The Physician Director represents over 1,000 SVU Physician Members.
Eligibility for Physician Director
Candidates must be a Physician Member in good standing, and have been a Member in good standing for at least one year prior to election. The Physician Director must hold a current license to practice medicine, achieve and maintain a professional credential in vascular technology, and be involved in the noninvasive vascular field.
The SVU Governance Committee will review all qualified applications and may consider other candidates as well, and may opt to conduct interviews. One finalist will be presented to the Board of Directors for election at its August meeting. Candidates will be advised of their status during the process.
Opportunity 4: Vendor Director - Three-year term
The Vendor Director is a three-year position for 2022-24. The Vendor Director represents the Society's sponsoring vendors.
Eligibility for Vendor Director
Candidates must be an SVU Member in good standing, and have been a Member in good standing for at least one year prior to election. The Vendor Director must be an employee of a noninvasive vascular testing vendor company.
The SVU Governance Committee will review all qualified applications and may consider other candidates as well, and may opt to conduct interviews. One finalist will be presented to the Board of Directors for election at its August meeting. Candidates will be advised of their status during the process.
Obligations of all SVU Directors, regardless of category:
Applicants for all Director positions must be able to commit to travel to two in-person meetings, one in winter (January) and one in summer (the day prior to the SVU Annual Conference), as well as participate in two or more conference calls during the year. Directors serve as Liaisons to and members of various SVU Committees, Board task forces, and allied organizations; set the strategic vision and plan for the organization; provide guidance and feedback to the Executive Director and staff; prepare for Board meetings by reviewing documents and providing feedback; and aid in the governance of the organization. Directors are expected to proactively participate and contribute to the organization year-round.
Covered Costs:
For the winter meeting, typically held in early-to-mid January:
- Travel to and from the Board meeting, lodging, and meals are covered by SVU.
For the summer meeting at the Annual Conference, currently scheduled for the first week of June 2021:
- All SVU Directors are expected to attend the Annual Conference which immediately follows the summer Board meeting. Therefore, only the one night of lodging prior to the Board meeting is covered by SVU, along with meals the day of the Board meeting.
- Travel to and from the Annual Conference is NOT covered.
Process and Deadline:
- By Thursday April 15, 2021, 11 pm ET:
- Submit the ensuing Board Application online
- Include a single Professional Letter of Reference
- A Resume (or CV), additional letters of reference, and a cover letter are optional
- Applicants submitting Resumes must still indicate their relevant skills and experience directly on the application.
- Applicants should indicate their preference for consideration for the Technologist/Physician/Vendor and/or At Large Director positions.
- SVU Member election will occur electronically during July 2021, over a 3-week window.
- The SVU Board election will occur at its summer meeting in August 2021.
- Results will be publicly announced during the SVU Annual Conference on August 19-21, 2021.
