Unifying Ultrasound Physics Review Video
Frank R. Miele, MSEE
In this 90 minute video (available on VHS or DVD), Frank Miele,
President of Pegasus Lectures, discusses important physics concepts as
they relate to what sonographers do in their everyday practice. The
purpose of this video is to review the main concepts of ultrasound
physics and connect the main concepts into a cohesive “story” that is
both memorable and applicable. Ultrasound physics is organized and
discussed as it pertains to 7 steps and/or choices that sonographers
make each time they scan a patient.
The video includes a review of ultrasound physics concepts
including the creation of the test signal, system settings affecting the
transmit signal, characterization of the test signal and medium, signal
modulation, detection, display, and interpretation of the ultrasound
image. In addition, Frank Miele covers attenuation, impedance,
propagation speed, waves, frame rates, transducers, hemodynamics, color
Doppler, CW/PW spectral Doppler, scan converters and bioeffects.
